My Day in Photos

Got off work.
Watched a beautiful sunrise on the way home.
Slept 3 hours.
Woke up.
Got lunch.
Went to help with a work fundraiser.
Mom called.
Grandma in ER.
Walked over.
Mimi was fine.
Bad swelling in her leg.
No clots.
Lectured her on taking it easy.
Eased mom's worries.
Invited mom to get pedis.
Went home.
Got my ankle weights in the mail.
Look ridiculous.
Shaved legs.
Mom and I got pedis.
Entire salon stared at me when I laughed as they scrubbed my feet.
Made the salon lady do a double take when I called my mom "mom".
Thought we were sisters.
Story of my life.
Great hope for looking young when I'm older!
Went home.
Catch up on DVR.
Try a new recipe.
Bake cookies for a going away party tomorrow at work.
Just need sleep now.

What did you do today?

Fried Onion Strings

I found a recipe you MUST try!
I was craving some fried onion strings the other day.
So I googled for a recipe.
And that's how I came upon Pioneer Woman's recipe for Onion Strings.
Now, I've heard of the Pioneer Woman, but I've never really read her blog before.
But now?
I'm a fan.
She is one stinkin' funny woman.
And an amazing cook!
And did you know she has a show on Food Network?
It's on my DVR schedule now.

Anyways, back to the recipe...

It's amazing.
Best onion strings I've ever had.

Unfortunately they somehow disappeared before I could get a picture.
I have NO idea how that happened.
Darn food thieving elves in my kitchen.
They magically transport the food into my stomach.

But here's a picture of hers...

Doesn't it look AMAZING?
I even used the recipe to make some regular onion rings.
I think I've got a food crush on this recipe.
You should DEFINITELY try it out!

Christmas Cupcake Stand to "Catch All" Tier

I found this cupcake stand in the after-christmas sales at Walmart.
It was SUPER cheap!
And I knew I could do something with it.

First things first, I took it apart.

Then I spray painted the plates a glossy gray and the support a satin nickel.
Then I put it back together.

It's perfect as a catch all for all my stuff!
Like ponytails and bobby pins... I swear, these are all over my house!

It was super simple and took no time at all!

Bathroom Sink- a Work in Progress

My old bathroom counters were a horrible gold marble color. Yuck.

I looked into several options and finally decided to build my own countertop! My dad supervised while I cut a piece of plywood for the base of the counter. He also helped me build braces under the counter. I found this fun glass tile sheets at Lowes. I simply had to cut them to size. I need to get a glass snipper to cut one corner. Then I'll set the tiles then grout.

But I've got my vessel sink and faucet on there so I could see how they look. I'm so excited! Just hand me my contractor's license.

I've Had Enough of this Rubbish

I'm working tonight. And tired, ready to go home already. And this picture pretty accurately describes how I feel!

Ever have days like this?

Louisiana Crawfish & Dipping Sauce

My dad and I picked up some crawfish today! I've been wanting some for a while now. It's a big thing here in Louisiana.

We have to eat it when my mom isn't around cause she doesn't like it.

If you've never had it before I'm sorry. It's delicious. It's a small crustacean like shrimp. They're red. You boil them whole with seasonings and veggies. I like red potatoes, corn, and onions. Then you twist off the tail and peel tge shell off. Then eat the tail. I like the claw meat too. Some people will suck the juices out of the bodies but I think that's gross.

There's a simple sauce I like to dip my crawfish in. I mix some mayo, ketchup, and mustard with a little Cajun seasoning. Perfect dipping sauce!

Are there specific things popular in your region?

Hunger Games: Book vs. Movie

Don't you dare read this if you haven't seen the movie and read the books.

I'm serious!

You're name will be put in the reaping bowl 500 times if you do.
And president snow will give you the evil eye.

Only those who have seen the movie AND read the books left?

Went and saw the movie today. After rereading the book yesterday. And I was pretty impressed! By far one of the truest "sticking to the book" storylines I've seen in a while.

My comments...

Casting: Caesar. Spot on. Just how I imagined him. And Cinna. I liked Katniss. Just think she appeared a little too old sometimes. And Rue. Perfect. Most of the tributes. Gale was fine. But Peeta wasn't how I imagined him to be.

Since the book is written from Katniss's point of view it's difficult to get a lot of info in. But they did a great job. Showing Caesar and the gamemakers and such. Really helped.

They omitted some stuff. Like Madge and the mayor. Which was fine. I wish Prim's goat story or the redhead avox had been there but ok I can deal. I really wanted the days of rain and feast but I can manage without. They didn't really explain why Thrush let her go in the movie. She explained that she and Rue were allies. That she helped her. And I wish she had gotten the bread from district 11. But again. I can deal. The ending was missing a lot I felt should've been there. Like Katniss's screaming when they go to operate on an injured Peeta. Her agony on waiting to see him. Their heated reunion. Her rushing into Peeta's arms. Kissing with Caesar trying to interrupt them but Peeta brushing him off. Um, hello, Peeta's amputation! Their fight before arriving home when he finds out she had been pretending to love him. So much missing! I mean, I know the movie was long but other stuff could've been cut for that.

I cried with her volunteering for Prim. But I knew I would. And with Rue! Oh goodness. And the scene with district 11. The man (who I like to assume is her dad) getting angry. Made the moment much more intense.

Overall, I was really impressed. Will definitely be a movie I buy.

I hope they make the rest. And somewhat improve on the books as I felt they weren't as good as they went along.

Anyways. What were your thoughts?

Chocolate Chip Cookie... in a Cup... in 3 Minutes

Oh. My.
I think I'm in love.
And his name is chocolate chip cookie in a cup.

I found this recipe for the cookie in a cup over at no. 2 Pencil (via Pinterest).
It's super simple and SO easy to follow!

I'm going to share my pictures of the process, but be sure to go HERE for the recipe!

I used this big oversized "soup" mug to make it in.
Melted butter...

Adding the sugars {didn't have dark brown, so I used light brown instead... worked fine!}, vanilla, and salt {regular, didn't have kosher}.

Ready for the egg yolk! Took me 2 tries to get it right... plopped the egg yolk into the sink the first time.

Added the flour. Oh, mixed batter... I could eat you NOW!

Whaaat?? Chocolate chips now added? I'll definitely sneak a bite now!

Cooked mine in the microwave for 70 seconds. My microwave is wimpy which is why I probably had to cook longer than she suggests.

I GOBBLED this up! It was SO GOOD! Perfect cookie :) I was really craving it and it really fixed that craving without waiting 45 minutes to make and bake a whole batch!

She also has recipes for Peanut Butter Cookie in a Cup and Sugar Cookie in a Cup... can't wait to try those too!

Thanks Melissa at no. 2 Pencil for my newest addiction!

The Best Toilet Cleaner

I don't know about you but I HATE cleaning toilets. It's the worst thing ever. You scrub and scrub and scrub. Well there's this stuff my mom would use on our toilets that made them like new! It's called The Scouring Stick. Takes hardly any time to get your porcelain throne shining again. I know for sure you can find it at Lowes. It's super heavy duty so make sure you test it first. But it can seriously knock out those pesky toilet stains!

What's your least favorite cleaning job?

The Time I Was a Man

No, I was never ACTUALLY a dude. Just dressed as one for this "flip flop" night where you had to dress like the other person. This picture is of Skyler and I (pre-dating). Don't tell him I showed you this! He wore my ninth grade homecoming dress. Although he didn't have the *ahem* right parts to keep the strapless dress up. We convinced him to wear makeup and a wig! I think the only reason he went along with it was cause he had a crush on me :) I wore this suit of my dads. Slicked my hair into a low pony. Used mascara to make my goatee. I even fooled this family friend of ours! Another year I convinced him to wear my cheerleading uniform and I wore a football uniform. He was so easily persuaded back then! All I had to do was pout and I got my way. Dang I miss those days ;)

What's the strangest thing you've ever dressed up as?

Jewelry Armoire

Today I went to visit the BFF {since she decided to leave me and move almost 2 hrs away}. I stopped by the store Rooms to Go. There was this jewelry armoire I had fallen in love with a few months ago. So I went back to buy it. They were scheduling the shipping and apparently I live too far away and it would cost 80ish dollars. So the guy talked to his manager and they let me buy and take home the floor model! I saved almost $100! Now FINALLY all my jewelry has a home, not strewn across my house in different containers. What do you think?

Things I'd Want in My Dream Home

If I had all the money in the world, here's a few things I'd want in my dream home...

A HUGE fun treehouse {for me, of course}!

Source: via Courtney on Pinterest

Forget the stairs... I'll take the slide!

How cool is this??

Coolest. Bathtub. Ever.

This would be SO relaxing... I'll take the beach front too!

I think I'd need like 10 bathrooms for all the tubs I want!

This one's actually feasible!

What would YOU want in your dream home?

Cheesy Potato Soup

The other night my boyfriend asked if I could make this potato soup I had made a while back.
Only problem was, I didn't write that recipe down.
So I had to start over and hope for the best.

I did remember this much... I had used white and red potatoes.
I peeled and diced 5 small yukon potatoes and added those to a large pot.
Then I diced 5 small red potatoes.

Then I added my seasonings {I kinda guesstimated so let's hope this is right!}...

You can play around with this to your tastes... mine had a little kick to it.

1 small finely diced onion {my boyfriend doesn't like onion so I have to make it as inconspicuous as possible!}
1 tablespoon seasoned salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon cajun seasonin
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper

Then I added 4 cups of chicken broth.

I popped a lid on the pot and let it simmer/boil until the potatoes were cooked.
Then I used a potato masher and mashed it up a little bit.

This will help thicken your soup so the more you mash, the thicker it will be.
I also added 1 cup 1/2 and 1/2 to add some creaminess.

Lastly I added 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, stirred until smooth and then removed from heat.

Serve and enjoy!

I topped mine with a little extra cheese and some chives.

It was really good!
The boyfriend ate an entire bowl and asked me if we could keep it warm in case he wanted seconds.
There were enough leftovers that I had a bowl for lunch the next day.
And the boyfriend took some twice for his lunches.

It was such a big hit with both of us.
Thank goodness I wrote it down this time!
