Cheesy Vegetable Chowder & 11/30 What's Cooking Wednesday

So I don't know about where you guys are at, but it's COLD here in Louisiana.
Of course, my cold is probably nothing compared to you "northerners".
You're probably thinking I'm a wimp.
But it was 62 degrees in my house when I woke up the other day.
Yep... the heat came on that day (my first time to turn on the heat in my house).
Right now, highs are in the 60s, lows in the 30s.
What's the weather like where you are?

Anyways, the cold weather is seriously wrecking me.
I've been sick for over a week now.
Started with a little sore throat.
Then a cough.
Then severe congestion.
Luckily I only lost my ability to taste for 1 day.

Well, one of the days I was sick I really wanted some soup.
I really enjoyed that broccoli soup I recently made.
But I wanted something different... a little variety.

So I played off of that recipe, and searching online, to make my own recipe.
And this recipe is DELICIOUS!
Now I didn't even think about taking pictures as I went (blame the sickness).
But I do have a few of the finished project :)

Ok, enough teasing... without further ado...

Cheesy Vegetable Chowder

Ingredients:

3 tbsp olive oil
1/2 onion {chopped}
4 garlic cloves {minced}

2 cups chicken stock
1 1/2 cups white wine
1/2 cup half & half
1 cup milk

your choice of vegetables {chopped}
{I used 1 head of broccoli, a handful of baby carrots, 1 tomato, 1 zucchini, 2 red potatoes}

1 onion soup mix packet
2 tbsp dried chives
salt & pepper to taste

1 cup cheddar cheese {shredded}
4 oz Velveeta cheese {diced}

Directions:

In a large pot, cook onions and garlic in olive oil until soft.
Stir often to keep garlic from burning.

Add the chicken stock, white wine, half & half, and milk.
Bring to a boil for about 5 minutes.

Add the chopped vegetables.
Here's where you can customize.
Add as many kinds and as much vegetables as you want.
Cook for about 30 minutes or until vegetables are soft, stirring often.
{time will vary depending on size of vegetables}

Add the onion soup mix, chives, salt, and pepper.
Cook for 5 more minutes.

Add the cheese, stir until melted.

ENJOY!

It was SO good! It made a TON of soup too!

If you make it, let me know how it turns out for you :)

Blogger App for iPhone

Ok. Not to be blowing up your feed with too many posts today. But I just learned there's now an iPhone blogger app from google. It easily let's you post to your blog, add labels, and add photos. Although I haven't figured out how to rearrange the photos in the post. But I'm guessing this one of my crocheted headband will show up at the end. We will see! If you get it, let me know what you think.

Christmas Wreaths

So it's my first Christmas in my new house!
And I now have a Christmas wreath on my door :)

I had bought the wreath last month at a garage sale for $1.00.

The Merry Christmas sign was purchased after Christmas clearance at Walmart last year for a couple of dollars.

Then I added some ribbon and the green glitter stem I purchased from Michael's.

The ornaments are leftover from my tree.

I didn't glue anything in case I wanted to change something later.

I feel so festive now!
I REALLY need some lights for the outside of my house now too though.

Here's a few more wreaths I've found on Pinterest:

My First Crochet Piece

So I have this problem.
I randomly decide to pick up new hobbies.
Sometimes they stick.
Sometimes they don't.
But I love learning new things.

This time, it was crocheting!
I've seen lots of stuff on Pinterest.
Plus other crochet items I thought were adorable!

So I decided to teach myself.
And in comes Google.
I started googling how to crochet.

Oh wait...
Let me backtrack.
I decided to try to crochet a complicated headband as my first project.
By looking up how to do each stitch as it came up.
Bad idea.

I know, I know... it's TERRIBLE!
It kept getting smaller and tighter.
I couldn't even unravel it at the end.
Fail.

So it was then I figured out I needed to start at the basics.
I searched around and found a few decent sites.
But then I found one on Pinterest.
And it was a GOD-SEND!

Introducing the Crochet School over at Crafty Minx.
Seriously, her tutorials are AMAZING!
I could easily follow her videos!
While I haven't "graduated" I am keeping her page bookmarked for future reference.
She even has videos for you left-handed people out there!

I didn't quite follow her "syllabus".
Mainly because I had something in mind of what I wanted to make.
I REALLY wanted a headband ear warmer.

So I followed her first few classes and learned the single crochet.
That's what my whole headband is.
I used heather gray yarn.
It's 10 crochets across.
I just kept making rows until it was a comfortable width around my head.

I love it because the stitches allow me to clip in things like flowers...

Or bows (and please ignore my strange expression... I don't like pictures of me)...

Some struggles I had in the beginning...

Patience: It's really hard to be patient and learn to wait things out.

Tension: I had to learn to relax and not pull my yarn too tight.

Counting: I can't tell you how many times I lost count of my stitches.
At one point, I kept doing 9 stitches instead of 10.
So there's this random indent.
But it's barely noticeable.

But overall, I LOVE how it turned out!

And now I'm going to check out some more of the Crochet School to make some more stuff :)

LMM's Momma's M&M Cookies & 11/16 What's Cooking Wednesday

So a little over a month ago I saw THESE M&M cookies over at Little Miss Momma.
If you don't follow LMM, then we are no longer friends.
I'm just kidding.
I won't defriend you.
But you should definitely check her out!
She has great recipes, tutorials, and straight up REAL stories about being a momma.
Plus she has one of the stinkin' cutest kids ever.

Seriously, the BFF Nichole and I talk about her like we actually know her.
'Cept we usually just refer to her as Little Miss Momma.
Even though we know her name.
"Hey, did you see what LMM wrote the other day?"
"I totally want that necklace LMM wore."
It just feels right to call her LMM.
She is THE LMM.

Ok now that I sound like a complete stalker.
I promise I'm not a creeper, Ashley (aka LMM)!

Anyways... I saw the cookies and knew I had to try them.
Here's her cookies:

I started buying the stuff for it but didn't make them until a few weeks ago.
The recipe is actually from LMM's Momma.
And MY momma helped me make them!

You can find the recipe HERE.
I pretty much followed the recipe exactly.
Only I undercooked my just a tad.
Cause all cookies are best that way!

Here are my pictures...

All ready to go in the oven!

Don't think I didn't go, "M&M for the cookie, M&M for me!"
So yummy!
I had originally gotten some Peanut Butter M&M's to try too.
Sadly, they did not make it to cooking day.
They met their maker.
My stomach.
I kinda have an addiction to them.
I used to LOVE crispy M&Ms.
But you can't find those anymore.
Dumb.

Nice and cooked :)

So warm and delicious!

I also added just some chocolate chips to the sugar cookie dough.

And I went really crazy and did chocolate chips AND M&Ms.
I know... amazing huh?

I LOVED these M&M cookies!
So delicious, ESPECIALLY hot and fresh out the oven with a tall glass of cold milk!
The hot M&Ms MELTED in your mouth!

I think next time I make these I might use mini M&Ms too!
And maybe the Peanut Butter M&Ms will make it :)

Ok now for 3 AMAZING recipes that were shared last week!

Look at these BBQ Chicken Sandwiches using leftover rotisserie chicken over at Cook Lisa Cook!
I LOVE the idea of coleslaw on them too... must do next time!

Holy cow! These Cheddar Jalapeno Mashed Potatoes over at Small Town Life look AMAZING!
I love mashed 'taters and always like trying a new twist!

Ok, so I like sushi, but have no clue how to even start to make it at home.
But fear not... Amie, over at Kitty Cats and Airplanes has the solution with her "make your own sushi" tutorial!

Now.... It's time to see what you have been cooking up lately!
