1/31 Meet Me Monday- I'm a Picky Smoothie Lover

I love smoothies. Ok, that didn't have enough emphasis. I LOVE smoothies!

But I'm picky about it. There are very few smoothies I've found that I truly love.

My favorite... Smoothie King's Muscle Punch. Here's the website's description:
"Be good to your body and it will be good to you, right? Well, what happens when you’re great to your body? Give it this creamy combo of banana, strawberries and our unique nutrient blend, and you’ll find out."

It is seriously the BEST smoothie I've ever had. It all started my freshman year of college. It was orientation week. A few girls I was with mentioned a great smoothie place. I knew I liked strawberries and bananas and so one mentioned I try the Angel Food smoothie. I did and really liked it. So that's what I had for a while.

Until someone introduced me to Muscle Punch. It just had the extra something. I was hooked. There was only a Smoothie King in the college city though. 2 hours from home. So I could only get it while at school. Sad, I know. Especially when I moved back home to go to school.

Well then about a year later, news got around that a Smoothie King had opened in the town across the river. Can you hear the hallelujah chorus yet? Only problem is, I don't go out that way often. But I do stop by every chance I get.

Even greater news? They're opening one in my town. 10 minutes from my house. Right next to Walmart. We all know I go there a lot. I can't wait! My brother even got me a gift card for Christmas. It's so exciting. I wish it would open now. I'm so impatient :)

Anyways, there's very few other smoothies that I even like. Sonic has a decent Strawberry Banana smoothie. When they make it right, that is. But that's about it. I can't even make it how I like it at home.

Aww man... there I've gone and done it. Now I'm craving a smoothie :)

So do you have a favorite smoothie flavor? A favorite place you like to go?

"Look Into My Eyes"

Just a little quick work update... I finally started up on my home unit, NICU, this week! I am so excited about working with these little ones! There's a few 23 and 24 week babies that are true fighters. They are so little, some under a pound, but are striving to make it in this world when they came just a little too early. So keep those babies in your prayers :) I've mostly been working with what they call "grower feeders". These are basically babies who may have had problems at birth but are basically there to learn to eat right and gain a little weight before going home. I could sit there rocking and feeding those babies for hours!

Anyways, I had my first 12 hour shift Wednesday and it went really well. Tonight is my first night shift... 6:30 pm to 7 am. Eeek! I'm not a night person so we'll see how this goes. And, oh yea, my FIRST paycheck? Yes please! Direct deposit. In my bank account. Today. So excited to get paid more than minimum wage!

Ok, so you know when they ask you, "What's the first thing you notice about someone?" I would have to say eyes. There's more than just the standard blue or green or brown eyes. Each hue is a different range of colors.

And I think my boyfriend, has the most gorgeous eyes of all. Maybe I'm biased. But I seriously love his eyes! He'll probably kill me for posting this (he hates pictures) but it's just of his eye so yea...

Ok so do you agree with me now? It's like he has this intricate mosaic of blues and orange and gray and everything. I'm his girlfriend so I have a right to brag... I just love his eyes :)

Growing up I've had a lot of people stop and tell me I have pretty eyes. Even as a baby, my mom said people would complement on my eyes. It's kind of awkward when a complete stranger is getting all up in your face like "your eyes are really pretty!". Yea, personal space? Mine. Yea. Not so close. Anyways, I still think el boyfriend has the most gorgeous eyes ever! But here's what mine look like:

I like to call the center my "ring of fire"... make me too mad and I'll shoot fire out my eyes like that dude on X-Men. Just kidding :)

Since I'm fascinated by eyes, I recently took some pics on a trip I went on with some girls from church. These were took with my iPhone so the quality is pretty bad but here's a few more eye photography :)

She has a birthmark in her eye... pretty cool if you ask me!

Here is a mother's eye...

Followed by her daughter's eye...

So what color eyes do YOU have? Is there anyone you think has GORGEOUS eyes?

A quick note...

Dana, over at Saturday Mornings, is collecting donations and giving the proceeds from any purchased ad spots to a group of underprivileged children. This is a great opportunity to help out some kids! For more information about Project Kids, click HERE.

Corn Casserole & 1/26 What's Cooking Wednesday

So this is a semi-famous recipe in my family. I found the recipe in an old cookbook of my mom's and tweaked it a little bit. Now, anytime we have a family function, I get requests from everyone that I bring it. My aunt, who recently got married, even called to beg me to make it for her reception.

I finally got Skyler's camera back (YAY for nice pictures!) so I thought I'd finally share this recipe with you guys. I took pictures... while I was cooking it for a family get together :)

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Then, melt 1 stick of butter in a Pyrex dish.

Add a can of cream corn...

A can of whole kernel corn...

And 1/2 a cup of water. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Mix well. Add cornbread mix.

Mix ingredients together.

Add the 2 beaten eggs. Don't forget these... I did one time. It was edible but not as good as it normally is.

Mix well a final time.

Cook for 1 hour or until golden brown.

Enjoy :)

Since this is such a highly requested recipe in my family, I made a 4 x 6 recipe card. Now I can just hand it out when people ask for the recipe. And here it is for you if you want it too. Just right click and save.

Now for a few of last week's favorites!

Check out these Pizza Bites from over at Food, Folks, and Fun! They look DELICIOUS! AND... they only take a few ingredients to make! Now that's my favorite kind of recipe!

C & C Marriage Factory posted a great recipe for The Best Broccoli Ever. Now, I'm a pretty big fan of cooked broccoli. I'm really thinking about running to the store so I can get some broccoli to try it!

I love breakfast foods so I was pretty excited when I saw this Breakfast Casserole recipe over at A Little Bit of Everything! Bacon, eggs, cheese, bread... does it get any better?

There were so many great recipes linked up last week! Be sure to head over and check them out!

Alright, now it's time to see what you've been cooking up!

Add as many recipes as you'd like! Look for featured ones next week too! Yours could be a favorite!

Dreaming of Helicopters...

So a helicopter just flew over my house and it reminded me of a dream I had last week.

I had a dream I flew up in a helicopter with an uncle of mine and a few random other people. We were in the sky over my house when it malfunctioned and we fell out. But we all had parachutes and landed in the bushes between my yard and my neighbors yard. I had time to look around at everything before I woke up.

Weird thing is... when I woke up, I heard a helicopter outside. But it was still that semi-coma mode when you first wake up. I fell back asleep for a few minutes and then really woke up. I went in the living room to tell my dad about the dream and ask him if a helicopter really did go over our house. Which it DID.

So here's where my curiosity sparks... A helicopter flies over our house for maybe 5 to 10 seconds. My dream felt like it lasted a LOT longer than that. At least 10 minutes. I'm assuming that I subconsciously heard the helicopter and that sparked the dream. Because I doubt that I coincidentally dreamed about a helicopter right as one flew over the house. Like really, why would I dream about a helicopter? It's the most random thing. So with my theory, dreams must happen in really super mode sometimes. Like a whole "scene" can play out in a matter of seconds.

Have you ever had any weird dreams where you woke up and it was sparked by something in your environment?

How to Create a Clickable Link in a Comment

So I absolutely love it when someone leaves a clickable link in a comment. That means I don't have to copy and paste a (sometimes really long) url link to go to someone's blog. Just click and go!

So instead of:

This looks like a good recipe! I'd love for you to visit my blog and link this up:

http:// thisisareallylongblogname.blogspot . com/01/2010/ a-really-long-post-name-that-takes-forever-to-read-and-i-dont-want-to-copy-and-paste-this-whole-thing. html

We can then see:

This looks like a good recipe! I'd love for you to visit my blog and link this up:

My Recipe Linkup - don't click the link... it'll just bring you to my homepage :)

So you can see how that's a lot cleaner and I can easily access it from my approve comments page! I'm much more likely to follow a link if it's a clickable link because it's easier and I have this pet peeve. I really dislike putting in a url in my url box. I don't want it to show up in my dropdown box of commonly visited sites. Weird, I know. But it's how I roll. Anyways, I have to go to Then copy and paste the url in the search. Then click the link. Which takes a lot of time when you get multiple requests to visit blogs. Or I have to click the user profile and hope they have a link to their blog. It's just very time consuming when you have several "visit my blog" requests a day.

Alright, so how to:

The comment boxes will automatically read HTML. So just put this in for where you want the link (but remove the asterisks *):

So, for instance, the link I posted above, the My Recipe Linkup looked like this:

<*a href="http://www. notsohomemade. blogspot . com">My Recipe Linkup<*/a>

Really simple and a quick and easy way for others (the blog owner you are commenting on as well as others who may see the comment) to click and follow the link!

1/24 Meet Me Monday- I'm a Twilight Fan

Yes, I'll admit it. I'm a Twilight Fan. Not like one of those, OMG TEAM EDWARD! NO TEAM JACOB! AHHH! kind of fans. I just really enjoy the books. And the movies, but the books are WAY better!

I didn't get on the bandwagon until after the first movie came out. I didn't even know what the movie was about. It never crossed my mind to even think about watching it. Well my friend, Nichole (better known to the blogger world as Mrs. Lavespere) had mentioned the books and that I should read them. Her copies, however, were lent out at the time. Well one day I notice Twilight sitting on the counter in my kitchen. I ask my mom about it and she had borrowed it from someone at work. I decided to start reading it. It took me a few days to really get into it. I would just read a few pages then put it down. Well then I really got into reading it. And then before I knew it, I had finished all 4 books in a span of just 2 or 3 days! Stephenie Meyer's writing pulled me in and those are the kinds of books I like best. Where I feel as though I'm there, watching everything happen. New Moon, my least favorite. I cried for like 20 pages straight.

So I got the first movie and watched it. It was good, but left out a lot of things from the book. But regardless, I couldn't wait for the next movie to come out.

I was there, midnight showing, of New Moon with my mom. Yep, even though I had a big paper due in the morning and had to be at clinicals at 6:30 am. I got like 1 hour of sleep that night. But I enjoyed it. There's just something about the thrill of a midnight showing! The second movie was much closer to the book, which was better in my opinion.

Eclipse- mom, Nichole, Tayler (my boyfriend's sister), my mom's friend, and I lined up again for the midnight showing. Once again, much closer to the book. Loved it :)

I'm really excited about the last 2 installments of the last book. I just hope they do a good job with portraying everything. A lot happens in that book.

As much as I love the movies, they can't ever replace the books. In my opinion, most movies can't compare to the books.. I've read them several times through, including the Bree Tanner novella (fills in a lot of gaps) and I catch more each time.

Don't think I'm some crazy fan. No, I don't have the t-shirts. No, I wouldn't scream if I saw Robert Pattinson. I do have a New Moon Burger King crown. Yea, be jealous :)

Ok, now the question some of you are thinking... Yes, I am Team Edward. I enjoyed their relationship in the books better than the whole Jacob thing. My mom is Team Jacob. Our house is divided. Although, the "team" thing is more of for fun to poke at each other. "Yea, saw your dog on TV today, Mom". "Yea, at least my wolfman doesn't glitter like a tiara, Courtney." We have fun with it. Nichole joins me on Team Edward. Tayler is with my mom on the whole Team Jacob. Although, I think half of this whole Team Jacob thing is due to Taylor Lautner. I won't lie, dude is ripped. Although, Robert Pattinson has nice hair. Yes, I like the messy look. And his smile.

Admit it, you're jealous of me and Edward :)

So, have YOU read the books or seen the movies? What did you think? And do you have a "team"?

1/23 Spotlight Sunday & BLOGHOP with Ms. Smartie Pants

Hey everyone! I'm a little late getting this up... been running all day! But it's still Sunday and that means another great Spotlight Sunday. This week I'd like you to meet Laura over at Ms. Smartie Pants! I had the privilege of meeting Laura through helping her out with a blog design and I fell in love with her blog and amazingly crafty and creative ideas! So without further ado, meet Laura!

Hey everybody I am happy to be here hanging out on notsohomemade with you today. Courtney offered to spotlight my blog on her blog! Such a sweet thing, thanks Courtney.

My real name is Laura and I live in Texas with my husband. We have 4 children 2 of which live at home. I work part time at a church as the Childrens Director, a job that I love! Creating, crafting and decorating is kinda like the glue that holds my life together. Let me introduce you to my blog....
First I always feel like I have to explain my name as I did not give myself that title. My husband did! On occasion my husband will be stumped and can't figure something out so he will come in complaining I mean conversing about his project and his problem and I will throw out an idea...that usually works and so he has officially (in his eyes) claimed me as Ms Smartie Pants! (Why do I feel like I am being vain when I go by this name. It is not my intention!)

I want to tell you that I absolutely LOVE blog land. It was made for me and I don't know how I EVER lived without it. It's like I have thousands of friend's in my home creating with me, something I have always wanted! I have piddled and made stuff for as long as I can remember in just about every medium, and I have the junk to prove it! I also LOVE to decorate houses! Being inspired by others ideas and sharing mine just makes me happy! I didn't know a thing about blogging until this time last year. It did not take me long to throw in my hat and give her a try. I made a goal if I stayed with it for 6 months that I would get someone to create a cute little blog for me, thank you Courtney! I got lots of great ideas and plans to open an Etsy store in the next few weeks. I hope you will stop by often to see what I am up to. Currently I am helping my wonderful niece decorate her brand new fabulous and spacious home. Check out some of the pics!

Her bathroom, swoon!

Dining area, love this wall!

Bedroom, so relaxing.

Den is just fun!

So I invite you to come on over, kick off your shoes, snuggle in a warm blanket, get your favorite drink and sit and look around awhile. I hope you like what you see and come back often!

Um, want to come decorate for me, Laura?

Isn't she talented? Check out a few other things she's created:

She also made these AMAZING hair flowers for me and I LOVE them! I wear them every chance I get!

So be sure to head on over to Ms. Smartie Pants and check out more great stuff from her!
