guest post: Dance in a Triangle

Hi everyone, it's T over from Dance in a Triangle, guest posting while Courtney is busy settling in to her new home.

A little about me: I'm a dabbler in the arts, be it writing, painting or photography, and my blog contains a little bit of everything I enjoy. I've recently begun taking my photography more seriously, and I thought I would share some photographs with you of the place I call home.

Sri Lanka is a small island in the Indian Ocean, known for its tea and spice and everything nice :) One of my favourite parts of living on an island is that everything is within a few hours' drive, so over the weekend you could go from lazing on the beach, to a tropical rain forest, to a wildlife sanctuary, to the cool climate of the hill country.

This is a lighthouse in Galle, on the Southern coast of the island, popular for it's beaches and historic Dutch Fort. Below is the view from the ramparts of the Fort. It's one of my favourite places to visit because of the history and cultural significance, but also because I have great memories there with my boyfriend :)

This photograph was taken in Arugam Bay, on the Eastern coast of the island. When the season is right, it's a hot spot for surfers, but I prefer it during the off season, when I can have the beach to myself.

Another local fave: the miles and miles of lush green paddy fields, juxtaposed against blue skies. Agriculture is one of the oldest and most important livelihoods of Sri Lankans (since we can hardly go a day without rice!), and golden-green fields are a common sight in rural Sri Lanka.

In the heart of the hill capital, the last kingdom of ancient Sri Lanka, is the Temple of the Tooth, housing the tooth relic of the Lord Buddha.

Kumana National Park is a bird watching hot spot, especially during the migratory season. It's full of secluded glades, watering holes and sunlit corners. If you are lucky, you will spot exotic birds, deer, crocodiles and even a lone elephant or two.

I don't want to crowd this post with too many pictures so I'll leave you with a few last pictures of the best part of island living: the sunsets!

That's all from me! Thanks to Courtney for hosting me on her blog! I hope you enjoyed the posts, and feel free to visit my blog for more.
