exciting news & a little help please :)

Drumroll please...

ddddddddddddddddddddddddd

Don't laugh at my drumroll, it works ok!

I have a closing date!
THIS FRIDAY at 2:00!!
I'll do one last walk through at 1:15.

I've called to get the electricity switched that day to my name.
I'll go get the water scheduled tomorrow.

EEK! I can't wait!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, on to my dilemma...

I'm trying to decide what I want to do in each room.

Now here's the tough one... the living room.
(sorry for the blurry quality... it's from my iPhone)

AHH! Paneling!
What to do with it??

It's all along that side wall to the left and the back wall behind where I was standing.

My dad says I should consider leaving it along since it's "higher end paneling".
It has the wood groves and grains.
I didn't even know you could consider any paneling "higher end".

What do you guys think?

Should I leave it alone?

Paint over it?

Attempt to fill in the grooves and then paint, so it looks like drywall?

Any other suggestions?

It's just SO DARK!
I don't really want to try to fill in all the grooves... that would take forever!
I'm trying to keep on a low budget too.

I've thought about painting it an off white.
Then distressing it with sandpaper to give it a vintage feel.

HELP ME PLEASE!

oh my gosh! LOVE! there is so much potential!! Congrats! Can't wait to see more pics :) Do you read Young House Love? I think their 1st house might have had wood paneling... their before & afters remind me a lot of this!! Good luck!

@Suzy- I just searched and found the blog you were talking about... I LOVE what they did! You can barely tell it's paneling!

LOL Men always say that! It does make the room dark, but then it is dark and there is no furniture. My sis painted her paneling a vintage white and it looks really good but really it is up to you.

oh goodness I hate paneling too! You can drywall everything and then paint it the color you would like =0)

I think you should move your stuff in, get some lamps in there and sit in there at night and see how it feels. If you still think it feels too dark i say paint it. i had some "high quality" paneling in my house growing up and after a few years my mom wanted to paint it and my dad wouldn't let her because of the quality of the wood. I wish they would have just done it, i think it would have looked fantastic!

Our living room has wood paneling and it's painted over. You honestly don't really even notice it after it's been painted. It lightens up the room a TON! I would definitely paint it!

I say paint it a light color! Congrats on the new house. I sent you an email but not sure if it's still your email. Can you send me my button with only Ms. Smartie Pants on it?

I love this room! So pretty! You should totally attack that paneling with paint. I've seen HGTV episodes where they did and it turned out GREAT. :)

Congrats on the closing date!!!

Painting the panneling white and possibly distressing it (or even just white washing it) would give it a cottage/beachy feel. White washed wood panneling is everywhere here in Denmark. Some houses have white washed hardwood floors and ceilings. Goes well with the whole Danish Modern design too.

Congrats on your closing date for your 1st house, so exciting!!!

We have wood paneling in our guest bedroom and throughout the living room/dining area. We painted ours a litghter color and love the look it has now. You can always see if there is drywall behind it, or leave it and just paint it. The only thing I DO suggest if you're going to paint it, is if there is a glossy coat on the paneling make sure to "rough" it up a bit so the paint sticks. Good luck with everything!

I love painted paneling. It gives you a nice texture.....but you have to sand it first or like Kayla said....rough it up. You will not be sorry.

I love that your dad calls it "high end" paneling. That is the funniest line for the week! I love that! He may need to do a post on his "dadisms." already a follower, xo, laura
