Wrist Corsage

Dear Summer,
School is a beast. I'm ready for a few weeks of break (even if I have summer classes after that). But don't get too hot. I'm enjoying this cool weather Spring has brought us.

I am so ready for this semester to be over. I'm in OB nursing and microbiology. I'm doing ok in my nursing classes and surprisingly well in biology. Today is my last day of lecture in nursing. Then test, test, test next week. I have my last lecture day of biology next week too and my last tests in there. Then the Monday after that... FINALS! Then I'm done! I can't wait!

So this weekend my brother is going to his one and only senior prom. He's growing up so fast... So this past Sunday, my mom and I experimented with making his date a wrist corsage. We made it out of fake flowers because we figured she would want to keep it. Well my brother and several other kids his age said the girl would probably want real flowers so my mom just ordered some instead. But all is not lost! I plan on removing the flower from the bracelet and attaching a hair pin to make a hair flower. So here it is...

We bought everything at our Micheal's Store. We broke apart the flower. We glued in blue feathers between the bottom and middle layer. Then glued white feathers between the middle and top layer. Using jewelry string, I affixed the pearl to the center of a silver circle accessory we found and weaved in the blue Swarovski crystals around the pearl. That was glued to the center of the flower and the whole thing to a blank silver bracelet. It still is going to make a cute hair accessory though!

Hair Bows Board

So this is something I made last year. I had gotten a lot of hairbows for Christmas (yes, I know... bows are for little girls but who says a 20 year old can't wear one??). Anyways. I needed something to organize them so I could find them when I needed them and they wouldn't stay thrown all over the bathroom. So here it is...

Sorry the quality is so bad. My camera ran out of batteries (story of my life). So I took this with my phone. My mom had bought these green boards when they were on clearance after Christmas. I bought some ribbon and hot glued it to the back at differing lengths. I used some fabric paint (puff paint is what I call it) to write the letters. I didn't quite center my letters right so I ended up having to draw a bow.

Here's a close up. It hangs on the back of my bathroom door and helps me keep track of all my bows (although a few are missing from this picture- I probably took them off in my car or something and they haven't migrated their way to their home yet).

Really simple and I used an already painted board and just added to it. Hope everyone enjoyed their week and is looking forward to the weekend. I know I am!

Baked Apple Goodness

So last week, I think it was, I noticed some apples at the bottom of my fridge that were ripe and needed a makeover before they went bad. I had about 5 medium/small apples. I'm not sure what kind they were. Either Golden Delicious or Granny Smith. But anyways... on to the super yummy apple goodness!
I found a recipe in a Taste of Home Mom's Best Meals cookbook I got for Christmas a few years ago. Really good and easy recipes for anyone looking for a good book! So here's the tweaked recipe.

Baked Apple Slices

5 medium/small sized apples, peeled and sliced
3/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon apple spice
1/4 cup water
1 stick butter
1/2 cup walnuts or raisins (if desired)

Preheat oven to 350. Place sliced apples in a greased deep baking dish. Combine sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, spices, and water. Pour over apples. Slice butter over apples. Sprinkle with nuts or raisins if desired. Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 45-60 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve over ice cream or just eat plain!

Yield: 4 servings

Mmmm! Yummy! They were really good. Can't wait to make them again!

More Senior Pictures

I know, I know... it's been a while. School has kept me crazy busy lately. I swear, my teachers have conspired against me and planned multiple tests for me every week. Well it's ok because I am now on SPRING BREAK! Well, actually, spring break started last Friday but I've been enjoying being lazy...

A few weekends ago I took some senior pictures for the lo
vely Kelly Rogers. Here's some of the edits...

On another note... my fabric I won from BlueberryMoon came in last week. It is sooo cute and I can't wait to get started. I think I've decided I want to make a quilt. I've made several quilts but never one for myself. I'm also not so skilled at quilt making so I've got to find a design I like but that won't be too hard for me.

Well I'm going to go back to enjoying my break. Hope everyone else is having a great day!
